Fun Fall Activities in Forest Grove and Washington County

The leaves are turning, the mornings are cooler, and you're staring at a free Saturday. You could stay home, or you could get out and enjoy the season. But where do you start?

You might know the big stuff, but fall in Forest Grove has a lot of smaller options that are easy to miss. Here are some ideas for families, couples, and anyone who wants a reason to get outside.

Why Fall Works So Well Here

Forest Grove sits in northwest Oregon, where the Willamette Valley meets the forests at the base of the Coast Range. That means farms, wineries, lakes, and trails are all close by. discoverforestgrove

You don't need a big plan or a long drive. Pick one or two things from this list and go.

1. Visit the Farmers Market While It Lasts

The Forest Grove Farmers Market runs Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. on Main Street, between Pacific and 21st Avenues, from May through October. That means you still have a few weeks left. tualatinvalley

The market features local produce, handmade crafts, tamales, and live entertainment, with kids' activities each week. The nonprofit Adelante Mujeres has run it since 2005. tualatinvalleybankspost

Tip: Go hungry, bring cash or a card, and bring a bag for fall squash and apples.

2. Get Outside at Hagg Lake and Nearby Trails

Henry Hagg Lake is a short drive from town. People go there to hike, fish, and paddle, and it's about 14 minutes from the Pacific University campus. pacificu

If you like birds, try Fernhill. The local visitor guide lists birding at Fernhill reservoir as a favorite. The Tillamook State Forest is also nearby if you want a longer outing. discoverforestgrovediscoverforestgrove

Tip: Fall weather changes fast here. Wear layers, bring rain gear, and check conditions before you leave.

3. Spend an Afternoon in Wine Country

Fall is harvest season in the valley. There are 65 wineries within 20 miles of Forest Grove, including some of the Willamette Valley's first pinot noir vineyards. discoverforestgrove

You also have options in town. Patton Valley Wines on Main Street and Waltz Brewing on A Street both show up on local event calendars.

Tip: Pick a designated driver, and call ahead to ask about hours and tasting fees. They change by season.

4. Explore Local History and Campus Events

Old College Hall on the Pacific University campus dates to 1850. Volunteers from Friends of Historic Forest Grove lead museum tours of the building, and it's on the National Register of Historic Places. pacificu

The Old Train Station and Museum is another good stop for history fans. It's open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Pacific University also has events open to visitors. Homecoming 2026 is October 16 to 18. The university's calendar also lists fall concerts from its choirs, symphonic band, jazz band, and dance department. pacificupacificu

Tip: Check the Pacific University events calendar for dates and ticket details before you go.

5. Find a Harvest Festival at a Local Farm

Farms around Tualatin Valley host fall events. In past seasons, Lee Farms in Tualatin and Red Berry Barn in Sherwood offered hayrides, corn mazes, and other farm activities. Prices and dates change every year, so check before you go. tualatinvalley

Forest Grove has its own harvest tradition too. The Corn Roast began in 1964 and was held in September in 2024. If you missed it this year, put it on your calendar for next fall. pacificu

A Quick Note for Anyone Thinking About Moving Here

If you're house hunting in Forest Grove, try these places first. Visit the market, walk downtown, and drive out to the lake. Doing that tells you more about a community than a listing ever will.

It's also a good way to figure out what matters to you. Do you want to be close to downtown? Near the trails? Close to the farms and wineries? Knowing that helps narrow your search.

Your Next Steps

  1. Pick one activity from this list for this weekend.

  2. Check dates and hours first. Events and seasonal hours change from year to year.

  3. Visit the farmers market before it closes for the season in October.

  4. Look at the Pacific University calendar for Homecoming weekend and fall concerts.

  5. Bring a friend or your family. Fall goes fast, and the plans you make now are the ones you'll remember.
